AboutFamily

Family

A family name

“Llamas carries my grandfather’s family name. It connects the guitars I build today with the family I come from.

Every build starts with a conversation about how you play, what you listen for and how you want the guitar to feel in your hands.”

From playing to building

Musician.
Guitar maker.
From Málaga.

“I’m Ignacio Recio Llamas, a musician and guitar maker from Málaga. I’ve played guitar for over ten years.

Working with a luthier on my first custom guitar made me curious about the decisions behind the way an instrument feels and responds. That experience led me to guitar making and eventually to building instruments under my own name.”

Questions

Good to know

Short answers about Lou, Bleus pickups, custom builds, woods and getting in touch. Anything else, ask Ignacio in an enquiry.

What is Lou?

Lou is the first Llamas model: an electric guitar designed for versatile sound and comfortable playability, with choices shaped around the musician. The standard Lou has six strings; the builder also shows 7- and 8-string versions.

Can I see photos of Lou?

Not yet. Lou will be shown here once it has been photographed. The photographs in Our work are of a Llamas eight-string custom build, and the builder uses a placeholder outline rather than Lou’s real shape.

Which woods can I choose for Lou?

Four parts, each from its own list:

  • Body (two-piece) Cedar, Swamp Ash, Black Limba or Alder
  • Top None, or Swamp Ash, Flamed Maple, Figured Ficus or Poplar Burl
  • Neck (one piece) Mahogany, Flamed Maple or Walnut
  • Fingerboard Rosewood, Pau Ferro, Walnut, Flamed Maple, Black Ebony or Exotic Ebony

The builder also covers strings, scale, finish, bridge, hardware and pickups, and shows what each choice adds to the estimate. A solid colour paints over the wood, so it replaces a decorative top.

What does “1pc neck” mean?

Each Lou neck is carved from a single, carefully selected piece of wood. Ignacio chooses the blank for its quality and grain, giving the neck a clean look with continuous grain. For Lou you can choose Mahogany, Flamed Maple or Walnut. Baritone, seven- and eight-string builds feature two carbon-fibre reinforcement rods.

How does a custom build start?

Every Llamas guitar starts with a conversation with Ignacio about how you play and the instrument you have in mind. Together you explore the feel, sound and finish that suit your music. You can plan your Lou’s woods in the builder first and add them to your enquiry.

Can Llamas build something other than Lou?

The guitar in Our work is a Llamas eight-string custom build. If you have a different instrument in mind, describe it in an enquiry and Ignacio can tell you what’s possible.

How much does a Llamas guitar cost?

The builder shows a provisional estimate, excluding VAT, that starts at €1,980 for a six-string Lou and adds each choice you make. It is an estimate for an enquiry, not a quotation or an order: it needs Ignacio’s approval, shipping is separate, and any tax depends on the destination. Nothing is paid for on the site. Send your build in an enquiry and Ignacio will quote individually.

How long does a build take, and is Lou available now?

Ignacio confirms both. As a provisional reference, preparation and dispatch is estimated at 2–3 months after he confirms your build and an initial payment is agreed, subject to availability, and transit varies. A configuration is a request for a quotation, not a reserved production slot.

What are Bleus pickups?

Bleus is a pickup brand from Málaga, created by Senén Miranda: 100% handcrafted and hand-wound. There are two voices, Crisol (more powerful and aggressive, for modern metal and heavier styles, around 16 kΩ) and Prisma (more versatile and cohesive, around 13 kΩ). Both come in 6-, 7- and 8-string formats. The kΩ figures are approximate references.

Can I buy Bleus pickups on the site?

Not yet: there’s no shop, basket or online payment. Choose a model, string count, bobbins and covers on the Pickups page and add them to an enquiry, on their own or together with a Lou build. Ignacio confirms availability and details.

Who makes Llamas guitars?

Ignacio Recio Llamas, a musician and guitar maker from Málaga who has played guitar for over ten years. Working with a luthier on his first custom guitar made him curious about the decisions behind the way an instrument feels and responds, and led him to building instruments under his own name.

Where does the name Llamas come from?

Llamas carries Ignacio’s grandfather’s family name. It connects the guitars he builds today with the family he comes from.

How do I get in touch?

Email Ignacio at spiralmotionrecords@gmail.com, or use the enquiry form on this page. Either way you can include your Lou build or your Bleus pickup choices if you’ve used the guitar builder or the pickups builder. Llamas’ social channels will be listed once they’re confirmed.

Are my builder choices saved?

Yes, on this device only: your builder and pickup choices stay in your browser until you change them. You can add them to your enquiry so Ignacio sees exactly what you chose.
